project Summary:

Clearway’s Energy Center in Uptown Pittsburgh is a newly constructed building that supplies emergency backup power for the main plant and UPMC Mercy Hospital.  The plant is the first of its kind in Pittsburgh and features energy efficient equipment to lower the output of Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Clista installed three 2.5 MW 4160v diesel generator systems enabling the capacity of 7.5 MW.  Underground, 4160v, cabling was installed between the plant and the hospital spanning 5 city blocks.  The  generators enable future companies to connect to these efficient services with their parallel switch gear and generators synchronization controls.  Thus, aligning with today’s eco-friendly standards.

Greatest Challenges/Notables:

  • BIM Modeling was essential to support the large equipment and utility work required for the small footprint of the building
  • Fast track schedule of 11 months
